About me

My name is Gabriel. I am a Christian, a born-again, Blood-bought child of The Living God.

My Hometown is Mesa AZ.

My Favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:13b: "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen."

I love music, especially psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and classical music. Handel, Bach, and Liszt are superb. My favorite instrument is the harp. My dad says that only real men can say that! But I'm only good at the piano, and that not very. Nevertheless, some of my compositions are available here.

I am a web designer, among many, many other things, and would love to assist you in any way possible with regards to HTML, CSS, etc. Please feel free to contact me.

Chivalry

7/25/09

To give context to the rest of what I say, it may help to read Judges 19:21-28 and Genesis 19:1-8.

These two Biblical accounts trouble me. Why were these men so willing to sacrifice their virgin daughters on the altar of hospitality? And, more potently, should we be willing to do the same? All that is within me cries may it never be! Yet my emotions must be conformed to The Word of God- and yet my Conscience is a gift from Him, and not to be disregarded. Herein I want to see how The LORD wants me as a man to treat women. Does the ancient legacy of Christendom- namely, Chivalry- have grounding in Scripture? This is what I want to discover here.

The first thing that we must realize is the Hebrew position on hospitality. The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry (Whom I neither endorse nor condemn, knowing nothing about them save that I agree with much of what they have said here) sheds light on this topic:

“Why would Lot offer his daughters to the mob of men since it was a very bad thing to do? Quite simply, what Lot did was wrong. He was hypocritical and ungodly in his action. In that culture, it was extremely important to treat visitors very well since the host of a home in a city automatically represented that city to the visitors. It was a very big deal to make sure the visitors were well treated. This may have played a part in Lot's decision to honor his guests, but it makes no difference. Lot was very wrong to offer his own daughters to the mob.” (Emphasis Mine)

We also need to remember that at that time in history, it seems that women were viewed with less honor than The LORD intended, which is wrong.

With this established, let us look at the Scripture.

First, the passage from the book of Judges. While this is Inspired Writ, it is important to remember that this entire book is almost given a disclaimer:

Judges 21:25: “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

This is repeated often in the book of Judges, hinting that much of what is done might not be God’s Best, or indeed may be an abomination to Him. Also noteworthy is Israel’s reaction- rape is not a good thing. It is not endorsed. It was punished by the near elimination of a tribe of Israel. And it was done with The LORD’s blessing. (20:28)

Having applied that to the passage from Judges, let us look now at the duty of the respective hosts together, as well as the Levite who allowed his concubine to be sacrificed for his comfort. Nature itself testifies that the host should say “No, you may not have my guest-” but also- and more!- that he should certainly not just offer helpless, weaker people as substitutes! To offer the women of the house is to violate conscience. It is important to defend a guest, but how much more so to protect one’s own daughter! The decision to offer the women in the place of the man is a pragmatic decision. I don’t know why, following that reasoning, he would not rather just give them the man and protect the women- save a possible view that they had less value than the men, which would be false, or that the man, as the head of the household, was his “real” guest- which is partly true, but not an excuse for his wicked actions.

For a moment I fear that maybe I have been feminized by the modern culture, and somehow if it is a woman or a man, the woman must be the one given to the wolves, because of God’s Authority structure. Maybe this feminization has skewed my conscience, and wrecked my perception of “The Law of Nature.” Maybe Lot did right, maybe the Levite was justified. Maybe the old mindset of the “lesserhood of women” was one that we should still hold! I don’t want to think this, though, but Sola Scriptura- and it is with sweet relief that I remember more Scripture bearing on this passage:

1 Peter 3:7: “You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”
1 John 3:16: “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
Ephesians 5:25-33: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her… So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh... Nevertheless let each individual among you also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband.”

The Levite violated this grossly, and I have a feeling that his prayers were hindered. And Christ could have given His Bride to the dogs of God’s Holy Wrath, and been the more comfortable for it- and indeed, He would have done no wrong in so doing, had such been The Father’s Will! But no, He sacrificed Himself for Her- and so should we. Blessed be The Name of The LORD.

Another passage:

Deuteronomy 20:13-14: “When the LORD your God gives it into your hand, you shall strike all the men in it with the edge of the sword. Only the women and the children and the animals and all that is in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as booty for yourself; and you shall use the spoil of your enemies which the LORD your God has given you.”

Again- the men are to be treated differently- more violently- than the rest. It is their duty to fight, and if they choose to bring war on their city, it is their duty to die.

Nehemiah 4:12-14: “And it came about when the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times, "They will come up against us from every place where you may turn," then I stationed men in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, the exposed places, and I stationed the people in families with their swords, spears, and bows. When I saw their fear, I rose and spoke to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people: "Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.””

Again, the men are to fight! It’s not fight for your husbands. No, men, be men, and fight for your wives and families!

Now a further question arises in my mind. Is there ever a time for a man to leave a woman in peril? How far can Chivalry be taken before it becomes foolishness? I have often used the example brought to mind by G.A. Henty’s work, For The Temple. If a man fought in the defence of a city gallantly, and wall by wall the city fell, until at last the city was lost, what should the man do? All is lost. He knows that he can escape, but also that there are thousands of women and children that will die miserable deaths within the crumbling walls. He also knows that if he remains to fight, he will only prolong the agony, for he cannot prevent it. What if his family is somewhere among the hills? Should he escape to them? What if he can escape with one woman or child snatched from the rampaging soldiers? If his family was in the city, then would it not be his obvious duty to protect them? This is a fascinating and sobering hypothetical situation worth pondering. All such weighty matters should certainly be considered with much prayer and thoughtful scouring of The Word.

The Jewish mindset, further, appears to me to be much less hesitant about family defence than we with our mushy-gushy lovey-dovey soft-fingered clean-shaven Jesus of our own extra-Biblical imagination often are. I think that they were more right. Death was a normal thing to them- to most of mankind, indeed, until the last, perhaps, two hundred years. I think that we lack something in the realm of readiness for death. I think some things that might should be second-nature to us make us squirm and hesitate simply because of bad interpretations of Scripture.

So many questions arise from this- vengeance versus justice, foolishness versus Chivalry, cowardice versus wisdom, guilt versus duty, presuppositions versus Scripture. May Scripture prevail! At any rate, let us as the men be ready to die, if and when the time comes. Let us act as men who are worthy of the title.

Resounding Music and Freedom

Resounding Music

Praise The LORD, after working with one of the brokers on Behemoth.com- a project of Vision Forum Ministries- an album of some pieces of music that I have composed is now available online- here, to be exact.

I also wanted to take this post to thank my forefathers. It is fitting that this post is so near to my Fathers' Day poem, for the Fourth of July, our day of Independence from the tyrannies of Great Britain so long ago, is really a holiday of rememberance to those fathers who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in a desperate effort to give us the freedoms which we now enjoy- and are losing. I would like to quote Mr. G.A. Henty here. While he is speaking of England, his home, I think that I can apply this with just as much truth to our ancestors in blood and legacy.

"The courage of our forefathers has created the greatest empire in the world around a small and in itself insignificant island; if this empire is ever lost, it will be by the cowardice of their descendants.”

~ G.A. Henty, preface, St. George for England

Nechet Becomes a Woman

5/11/09

Last Saturday we celebrated a great milestone in the life of my oldest sister Nechet. As she turns 12, she is beginning to take on the responsibilities- and be rewarded with the freedoms- of womanhood. Obviously, maturing into an adult does not happen overnight. However, my father took this day as an oppurtunity to confirm publicly that his daughter shares his vision and takes his Covenant with his God as her own. It was a beautiful day of sweet fellowship and celebration. And my resourceful mother, never failing to come up with perfect solutions- well, you can see the picture of the cake. :D

NechetNechet

The Legacy Ensemble also played some background music. :D Many thanks.

Nechet

Also, as yesterday was Mother's Day, I want to say a few things. Our church has been bountifully blessed with wonderful- albeit imperfect- mothers, for which we all thank God. And now is a good opportunity- though not necessarily much more than any other day of the year- to rise up and call my mother blessed. One specific thing that I've learned from my mother is resourcefulness. She never fails to take a bad situation and somehow make it work. For that I thank God!

A Letter to Mother

G. A. Hudelson

5/6/09

Dearest Mother,
I remember as a family how odd we seemed to be,
But it never seemed to bother you, for there was something you could see,
A deeper, higher calling than what everyone would say,
As you would follow Father in what The LORD said was the way.

Many times you fell, but then, you never stopped your fight,
And you taught me, too, to persevere, until I’d reached The Light,
And now a blessing rich has fallen on us from our King,
And I stand here triumphant knowing I can truly sing:

Chorus:
I bless you my mother, and thank you for your time,
The labor and the good you’ve done, forging a tie sublime,
And many daughters have done nobly,
But you stand above the rest,
And dear mother know, I love you,
And because of you I’m blessed.

As your daughters, we, dear mother, have a model near,
Something to aspire to, modeled by someone we hold dear,
And we love you and admire you, and faithfully we pray,
That we may follow in your footsteps and keep our house one day!

And I, your firstborn son, and my little brother too-
Many things my wife must have, I saw first in you!
I shall say this about my wife, once I know that she is mine,
But I can say with pride right now, until that later time

Chorus

Trip to the zoo

3/26/09

We went to the zoo one day,
Along with our friends the "E"s,
And as we were there, we did,
Run into our friends the "C"s,
And we enjoyed it immensely,
Cuz a lot of things we see-ed.

:D

Our trip to the zoo was indeed fun, but most impressive now, looking back, is of course the ingenuity of The God that created all of the animals and plants that we saw. Surprisingly, we didn't hear any "billions of years" comments, either.

I don't know what this thing is, but I found its tongue impressive:

Magnolia?

And for a bit of healthy humor:

Psalm 92:5-8: "How great are Thy works, O LORD! Thy thoughts are very deep. A senseless man has no knowledge; Nor does a stupid man understand this: That when the wicked sprouted up like grass, And all who did iniquity flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore. But Thou, O LORD, art on high forever."

Battle

2/19/09

Yes, I am still alive. And it is incredible to me that another year has past. The Kingdom of Heaven is advancing, and I hope that I am helping in that advance! Indeed. And my mind has not been wholly idle in the time since I have last written to the world, either. Behold!

Men
G. A. Hudelson
9/23/08

It will be a dreadful fight,
This, obvious, looking at the night,
The night which might think that it is right,
But which causes this terrible blight,
For this night puts into dreadful plight,
The spineless men that turn to flight,
And will not stand against the night.

It will be a dreadful fight,
The darkness Justice strangling tight,
Giving all a horrid fright,
The drowning of the Glory-Light,
Causing pain with all its might,
To men who cannot bear the sight,
And will not stand against the night.

It will be a dreadful fight,
If there is perhaps one noble knight,
Who brave will stand beside The Light,
And live and die with all his might,
To Love and Freedom holding tight,
A man who cannot bear the sight,
And proudly stands against the night.

It will be a dreadful fight,
And I shall stand beside The Light,
Though lesser men may turn to flight,
My King commands me not to slight,
The covenant I’ve made with Right,
And I shall die, but I shall fight,
And proudly stand against the night,

And proudly stand against the night.

Legacy

10/20/08

Legacy
G. A. Hudelson
9/10/08

I come to tell you of myself,
A venture not of pride,
But a tale of glory, and of Truth,
To give my children when I’ve died.

I cannot speak highly of myself,
For I would be at a loss for words,
But I shall tell you what is True,
To affirm what you may have heard.

I am a warrior, even now,
Though still within my youth,
A soldier of The Cross,
Fighting for my LORD, Who is The Truth.

I fight a bloody battle, now,
Against the crimson night,
Following my Great King Jesus Christ,
The Leader of The Light

And my children, when you read this,
I want you then to say,
“My father served his LORD The King,
From day to bloody day,

“And he fought many a battle,
So that with him I would sing,
‘Jesus is my Master,
And my father’s LORD my King!’”

And now I stand on the bloody battle field,
That my father for me won,
And remember the splendid and the great
Things that he for King has done,

And I know that our King’s victory,
Has only just begun,
And so I fight, and boldly,
And I fight for you, my son,

That one day you, like me, may stand,
Before our mighty foe,
Stand for your wife and family
That this dark world may know,

That my father served A Greater King,
And for Him I have died,
And now my children, ‘tis your turn,
To fight together, side by side,

And if you stand true, for my King,
Then I shall testify,
If all my life was meaningless-
For that, I’d gladly die!

MICAH IS HERE!

Awaiting the Prophet- Part II

8/30/08

Micah has been born, healthy and happy. Praise The LORD!!! When mom and dad left to the hospital, dad said "We are going to the gates of hell to let satan know that another one's coming." Amen! Another mouth has come into this world to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of the darkness into His Marvelous Light.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light....

He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?

Light Painting

8/13/08

Alright, Mrs. K. told me to blog this, so thusly: Light Painting:

Light PaintingLight PaintingLight PaintingLight PaintingLight Painting

Mrs. K. told me about this technique, but I did not try it, as I thought that it would be time consuming and hard. It turns out, however, that it takes all of a minute to do a quality light painting. All that one must do is set up his camera on a tripod (Yes, you MUST use a tripod) in a pitch dark room. Then have someone stand in front of you with a flashlight or candle or whatever. Go to shutter-priority mode or manual (my favorite mode to shoot in ; )) and set your shutter speed to something like 25 seconds. If you are shooting with a Canon or a Nikon, then set it to "Bulb" mode. The Rebel XTi does this, and it is quite nice. This setting causes the shutter to stay open for as long as one holds down the shutter-release button. Then, leave the shutter open while your assistant draws a picture with the light. Ta-da! Oh, and speaking of tripods, I was recently blessed with a very good-quality- though rather old- tripod. Many thanks to the persons responsible! It has already proved invaluable.

This effect also works with motion, and can produce some really neat effects. I like the surreal look that this technique gave to the computer game (Activision's Battle Zone) in the following pictures.

"And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed."

VICTORY OR DEATH! TO THE KING! TO THE KINGDOM! CHARGE!!!

Awaiting the prophet- Part I

8/4/08

Well, firstly, let me say AIEE! Do you realize that it is August already? That is insane.... Aipe. Do you realize that when you go to bed tonight, that is one day less until you marry, until you hold your first baby, until you die?!? As has been said, "Today is the first day of the rest of my life." Anyway, now that I have vented....

As one might deduce from above, this post is regarding my pending baby brother, Micah. Here are photos from his baby shower two days ago.

Micah's Cake Battle....

I stopped in the middle of above conflict to snap a photo, and then set down my camera and regained my swordsman's stance.

A noble young lord dining in the shadow of the great banner of The Kingdom:

To The King and The Kingdom!

My parents, expressing their love in a gentle way:

Holding hands

Aye. There is pow'r there. I await my little brother with bated breath and great anticipation. I look forward to see how The LORD will use him throughout his time on this earth. I trust, however, whatever his calling, that he will join me in saying "VICTORY OR DEATH! TO THE KING! TO THE KINGDOM! CHARGE!!!"

"For Thine is The Kingdom...."

P.S.

This discovery is worth a whole post in and of itself, but I am already here scribbling, so thusly: We have delved into our history and discovered that we have Scottish roots from our father's side, along with Irish and British, possibly. So now I may truly call myself a crazy Scottish laddie. Aye. But there be a greater heritage even than that of the motherland that flows through me veins. That heritage from my father is this- "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'" Jesus is LORD!!! But back to Scotland- here is our family coat-of-arms, as we have discovered: Our Coat-of-arms. And the Latin? It reads: "To God alone be the honor and the glory."

Praise Him, highest heavens, And the waters that are above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the LORD, For He commanded and they were created. He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which will not pass away."

Alright, I know that that is not a picture of a harp- though I did get a picture of one recently. However, we all know that pianos are not in The Bible. But the piano and the harp are very similar, you know. Anyways....

DSLR

7/21/08

Alright, if you are wanting rants and raves about how good DSLRs are, you will not find them here. Now that I am using a DSLR, I have noticed little difference between it and my old video camera, which I really miss. *cough*

Yes, that was entirely satire.

The LORD has answered my prayers and has provided us with a (large) upgrade from my most highly beloved Sony Handycam (which actually did take first in a photo contest, in case you were wondering). No, I do not miss the video camera at all. So what camera did The LORD provide?

Canon Rebel XTi Canon Rebel XTiCanon Rebel XTiCanon Rebel XTi

This is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. Wow, what a name. Could they not simplify that a little?

The next question: Is it better?

Yes, it is. I have yet to master it, but praise The LORD, 'tis simply another area in which to take dominion for The King, The LORD of Hosts.

"Let this be a sign among you, so that when your children ask later, saying, 'What do these stones mean to you?' then you shall say to them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.' So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever." And thus the sons of Israel did, as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the LORD spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the lodging place, and put them down there. Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan at the place where the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing, and they are there to this day.

Gilded Sunbeams

7/10/08

I know, I know, long time no blog. After hearing Mrs. K. talk about vignettes (vin-yett-s), I decided to try them. I am also making use of the technique which I learned from Bethany which Mrs. K. terms 'watermarking.' I call it a signature, and see no reason why photographers have to use really odd words instead of ones that actually have something to do with what they mean.

Gilded-Sunbeams

I also tried to make my signature more hidden and subtle on this one.

Isaiah 45:6&7: "That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these."
